Green hydrangea is an absolutely stunning cut flower and just perfect for
creating vibrant and luxurious flower arrangements, wedding bouquets, centre pieces and venue
decoration. Green hydrangea is a unique flower because, although there are many different types,
they are not variety colour specific like roses for example. Throughout their flowering season
there will always be colour variations - this is due to the amount of aluminium and other minerals
the green hydrangea absorbs through the roots. The colour of each variety is a moving picture and
cannot be guaranteed exactly to a specific shade. There are quite a few varieties of green
hydrangea to choose from - some are pure green in colour, (these are called 'fresh'), and others
are bi-colour, (these are called 'classic'). Here are just a few varieties of green hydrangea that
are commercially available: Antique Green, Elbtal Classic, Green Shadow, Magical Emerald Classic,
Magical Opal Classic, Magic Pearl Classic, Renate Steiniger Classic and Verena Classic. There is a
great article on hydrangeas, (including green hydrangea), on a UK wholesalers website if you click

Hydrangea.
For the cut flower market green hydrangea is grown under controlled conditions
under glass in Holland. The Dutch green hydrangea is the best quality available and bears no
resemblance to the blooms from outdoor plants. The stems are straight and strong, the foliage is
deep green and glossy and most importantly, the blooms are perfectly formed with beautiful clean
colours. Always make sure your green hydrangea has been grown in Holland if you want the very
best!
Unfortunately green hydrangea is not available all year round like many other
commercially grown flowers these days. In general it is available between April and October.
As green hydrangea take up a great deal of water it is very important that they
conditioned correctly before using. Please see our step by step guide for conditioning green
hydrangea included on the web site.
